They say
you become what you eat
So she ate flowers
All these years
In hopes of growing a garden
Of self-love.

This time
She promised to take good care of it
Water it with love and care
Nurture it with all her heart.

She offered you the garden once
Instead of nourishing it
You left the garden unattended
Only to leave it a barren land.

You cannot reap
The fruit you didn’t grow
Don’t take her forgiveness
For her weakness.

This time, she won’t let you walk all over the garden
With your dirty feet.
She won’t let you pluck all the pretty flowers,
Only to offer it someone else
You claim to have fallen in love with –

This time
She will not shy away from giving herself permission
To be other than
Yours, truly!
