Lines to a Prostitute

I love you no less than my own self
This spring night I invite you to be my guest
You are my comrade; we are the leaves
the same juniper tree.

A thousand times
you have been plucked and mutilated
At the smouldering altar of human passion
But still you smile like the floating lotus
Gratifying the hungry gaze of a starved generation.

This spring night let us not waste
In prowling the horizons of physical passion
Nor delight in the twilight of sensual pleasure
But let us this night reveal to each other
Our scathed souls and heal the pangs
With courageous words of love and trust

To us the human streets have been cruel
Us they purged with their own sins
And on us they let loose their hungry dogs
Yet when the moon rise on a restless night
Our songs they seek; our streets they roam.

And like the juniper leaves
they set us afire
To appease their wrathful gods
of passion and ignorance.
